Deloro means “Valley of Gold,” and its history in gold mining spans all the way back to 1868. While the recovery of the gold was poor at first, miners persisted, and throughout the 20th century Deloro flourished as a small mining town with plenty of sports for the community to enjoy.
Nowadays, Deloro maintains its small status, with the mine and industrial area long abandoned. The residents and environmentalists are all working hard to restore Deloro through ongoing cleanup projects to remove the low-level radioactive waste left behind at the mine.
